A major achievement in environmentally friendly and high-speed transportation has been reached with the completion of Europe’s inaugural certified full-scale Hyperloop test track. The Technical University of Munich (TUM) Hyperloop research group developed this 24-meter-long track. On July 10, 2023, the track saw its first successful trial run with a passenger pod under vacuum conditions.

The Technical University of Munich’s TUM Hyperloop research and development initiative achieved a significant breakthrough by accomplishing the inaugural passenger journey within a vacuum environment on July 10, 2023. According to an article in Innovation Origins, the team’s next objectives involve enhancing the track’s propulsion mechanism, levitation technology, and performance within vacuum conditions.

The inception of TUM Hyperloop was driven by its participation in the SpaceX Hyperloop Pod Competition, an annual event held between 2015 and 2019. This competition sought designs and prototypes for hyperloop transport vehicles.

TUM’s recent success follows another significant accomplishment in the field of hyperloop design. A student team from TUM emerged victorious in the “Not-A-Boring Competition” by developing an inventive tunnel boring machine that utilizes a unique horizontal excavation method.
